Tuesday, May 10, 2022

Clacks Business Week returned on 14 th March 2022 following a small hiatus since the start of the pandemic. Launched and run by Ceteris the aim of the business week is to foster local business
partnerships to boost economic development of Clackmannanshire.

Each year that the week runs sees a varying theme to provide a uniformity of approach and to support businesses with relevant issues of the time. Past themes of the event have included ‘Going for Growth’ in 2017 and ‘Innovat19n’ in 2019. 2022’s theme was ‘Future Fit’, with workshops, networking events and webinars focussing on three key areas: innovation, digital business, and the green economy.

Clacks Business Week ended with the return of its charity lunch, held at Inglewood House & Spa with an opportunity to award a local business with SME of the Year. This year, the award was presented to Lateral Dx who boast over 20 years in the biotech industry.

The lateral flow test specialists based in Alloa showed significant adaptability when the pandemic first hit in 2020, expanding their premises and team rapidly to respond to the surging demand for their services. Their business continues to go from strength to strength with new customers fro across the UK, US, Europe, and Asia. The company is part of an exciting growing diagnostics cluster based in Clackmannanshire proving this year’s theme of Clacks Business Week as being ‘Future Fit’ with strong innovation.

Richard Campbell, MD of Lateral Dx, said: “It’s great to receive this inaugural SME of the Year Award! I’d like to thank the team at Lateral Dx who have done all the hard work and Ceteris, Clackmannanshire Council and Scottish Enterprise for their first-class support. I’m confident there is a real opportunity to grow a strong diagnostics hub in the Clacks area if we can coordinate the necessary infrastructure, support and training.”

Lateral Dx provides high quality and cost-effective lateral flow solutions, from short Proof of Principle studies all the way through to supporting large scale manufacture. They provide a valuable consultancy service, antibody screening, conjugation and reagent supply as well as developing serological tests and manufacturing them to a high quality. Their areas of speciality include human diagnostics, women’s maternity health and wellbeing, veterinary diagnostics, agricultural scenarios and aquaculture diagnostics.

Maggie Gorman, Business Gateway and Development Director at Ceteris, said: “We’re delighted with the support shown for Clacks Business Week. A huge congratulations, to Lateral Dx, winner of the inaugural SME Business of the Year award. The presence of a highly skilled biotech cluster in our area is very exciting. Lateral Dx has adapted quickly to a rapid spike in demand triggered by the pandemic, but their plans to thrive as we move on from the difficulties of the last few years mean they will continue to build and grow on their success.”

This SME of the Year award is dedicated to Carl Hodgson, former MD of Ceteris, who believed passionately in encouraging and supporting local businesses. Carl sadly and unexpectedly passed away in December, a few months before Clacks Business Week. The award will be one way that Ceteris can continue to honour his memory.
